Lymphatic exercises · Includes intensive and self-management phases: · Intensive phase lasts approximately 2- 4 weeks depending on location and degree of lymphedema · Self-management phase is life-long · Manual lymphatic drainage is non-painful, relaxing and therapeutic to the lymphatic system · CDT is not a cure for lymphedema · Provided in the comfort, convenience and privacy of the patient’s home · The patient is instructed on managing their own lymphedema |

· Lymphedema is a progressive disease of the lymphatic system resulting in swelling of body parts, usually extremities, secondary to protein and macro-molecule extracellular fluid. · Lymphedema is not just water retention · May be congenital or secondary to radiation, surgery, or trauma · Swelling is not greatly reduced by: · Diuretics · Elevation · Diet changes · Compression pumps · There is no cure for lymphedema |

· CDT procedures are reimbursed by most insurance companies, including Medicare · Except for specific situations, most insurance, including Medicare, does not reimburse for CDT supplies. This includes: · Compression bandages · Compression garments · Compression garments require replacing approximately every six months |
